Usually, you count on your Lexus to take you all the places you need to go. But when something goes wrong with the engine, you might very well end up with a breakdown on the side of the road. The engine depends on several factors and conditions to function correctly, such as having the right amount of coolant fluid and oil. The engine must also stay within a proper temperature range to avoid overheating. When your engine gets too hot, a mechanic should evaluate your car to find the problem.
Leaks in the Cooling System
Your car's cooling system contains several essential parts, such as the radiator, the radiator's fans, and the water pump. These parts are all connected by hoses, pipes, and belts. Any of those parts are subject to breaking or wearing out, which means the cooling system can't transport coolant fluid to the engine as designed. If there is a leak in the cooling system, you might not be able to tell where it's coming from without a mechanic's help, but you can look for clues of a leak, such as green or blue coolant fluid dripping from your car.
Radiator and Radiator Fans
One of the vital parts of a car's cooling system is the radiator. The radiator cools off the engine by circulating coolant fluid in and out of the engine. The radiator also uses fans to draw warm air from the engine and out of the car, maintaining the proper engine temperature. The radiator might stop working for several reasons, including if the fans break and can't circulate air.
Water Pump
If the water pump breaks, your car's engine has a higher risk of overheating. The water pump uses pressure to move coolant fluid around the engine and its components. The water pump has a belt that can break, which then keeps it from moving fluid around. The water pump can also become clogged with debris and stop working. Dirty coolant fluid can also negatively impact the water pump's performance.
Heater Core
Your car has a part called the heater core in its cooling system, a small but important part for maintaining the engine's proper internal temperature. The heater core can break or get clogged with dirt, which then blocks the coolant fluid flow. If coolant fluid gets trapped in the engine, it will become too hot, which then causes overheating.
